Bosh may be the third guy in the Miami Heat's line-up, but his house is worth top dollar at $12.5 million. This is over $3 million more than Lebron James' new home in the neighborhood. Here is a link to photos of James's home.

Cliff Lee Goes Back to Philly

There is always that one guy that you can't get over. Despite his playboyish ways - dating you along with many other girls and eventually sending you packing - you only see his good looks and charm and are always ready to come crawling back. Well for all-star pitcher Cliff Lee, the Philadelphia Phillies are that guy.

Lee, a free agent (meaning he can be signed by any team), has just announced a new deal with the Philadelphia Phillies for a five-year $120 million deal. The Phillies came out of nowhere to win over Cliff Lee, as the Texas Rangers and NY Yankees were thought to be leading the negotiations. Lee not only gave up a bucket full of cash from the Yankees and Rangers, but also was able to overlook the fact that the Phillies once traded him across the country saying they couldnt afford him and yet signed pitcher Roy Halladay to a huge deal! Don't those Phillies sounds like that skeazy heartbreaker you know all too well?

So now Cliff Lee is running back to the Phillies who once sent him packing. The Phillies are also adding Lee to a stacked list of pitchers so it looks like Lee will be just one of many relationships the team will manage. If Lee had stayed with the Rangers he would have been the prized one and only love of the team. Now, he will have to share the spotlight and attention with an organization that once turned their back on him.

It is hard not to cheer for a player move that involves a player placing his interests over money, but in this case, Lee is still getting a big paycheck yet returning to the team that once left him heartbroken. He claims that he is more comfortable in Philly, but isn't that the tactic of a charmer? Sad to see the heartbreaker win out, cause we all know that they don't change.

What to Watch Tonight: Monday Night Football X2

Today is your lucky day, because there is not only one Monday Night Football game tonight, but two! Well, maybe you don't consider this fact to be good luck, but here is the scoop on tonight's match ups to keep you interested.

NY Giants vs. Minnesota Vikings: This game was supposed to be played yesterday in Minnesota, but a major snowstorm up in the midwest seriously damaged the Vikings' stadium. Check out the video below. Instead, the game will be played tonight in Detroit at Ford Field. The story line of the night is whether Brett Favre will continue his consecutive starting streak and play tonight, despite a painful shoulder injury. Tune in at 7:20 eastern to find out.
Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans: The Texans need the win to stay alive in the playoff hunt. Its offense is quite solid, so it needs to maintain its scoring and get its defense to step up against the Ravens. I have both teams' runningbacks on my fantasy football team so for my sake just root for each team to run the ball. Who knows, if my fantasy team wins it all there may be something in it for you - more money for Sportsgirl!

Football Turns Men Into Boys

There is something about the raw human nature element of the game of football that make football players resort to innate instincts. For example, only on the field do you see a player spank another man's butt, a quarterback put his hands between the legs of his teammate to get the ball, or even a bunch of men rubbing up against each other when tackling. Well, interestingly, this phenomenon of NFL men becoming immature boys on the field applies to coaches on the sideline too.

In the NY Jets vs. Miami Dolphins match up this weekend, Jets strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi, intentionally stuck his knee out on the sideline in order to trip Dolphins player Nolan Carroll. Yes, a coach actually tripped a player on the field during the game. You can check out the video of the incident below:

As soon as the game was over Alosi personally apologized to Carroll, the Dolphins, and the Jets organization. He released a statement admitting his "mistake in judgment" and that his act was "inexcusable and unsportsmanlike."

It is like Alosi lost all sense of responsibility and maturity in the moment and resorted to a childlike action of tripping another. Yet, as soon as the game was over his adult perspective returned with his sincere apology. Sure we all have lapses in judgment from time to time, but should Alsoi be penalized for his actions in this scenario?

Players get punished all the time for acting outside the bounds of the beastly regulations of the NFL game with in-game penalties and post-game suspensions and fines. Shouldn't a coach who was on the sidelines and not even permitted to be a part of the game be sanctioned? Seems like a no-brainer to me, but the sincere immediate apology by Alsoi should minimize the crucifixion.

What to Watch: NFL Week 14

Here is a rundown on some of the major NFL storylines this weekend:

N.Y. Giants at Minnesota Vikings: The question of the week is will Brett Favre start against the Giants? Favre has a current streak of starting 297 games in the NFL, but suffered a strained shoulder last week. He has been medically cleared to play, but will he be able to throw the ball effectively even with pain relieving injections? It is unlikely that Favre will let his streak end when the doctors have given him the go ahead. This guy is tough, despite his old age.
Kansas City Chiefs at San Diego Chargers: Chiefs QB Matt Cassel is talking about starting again this week after just undergoing an emergency appendectomy. Is he crazy? Sure, this is a big game where the Chiefs have the opportunity to get control of the AFC West title, but is it really worth the risk of serious injury? The NFL should really be stepping in on this one to regulate Cassel's return post surgery.
New England Patriots at Chicago Bears: The Pats are looking unstoppable as of late, but Jay Cutler and his Bears could be the squad able to control Brady's good looks. If Cutler can harness his offense and control his offensive possessions they will have a chance. Truth is, I am still not starting Cutler on my fantasy team.

He's On Fire!

Just an update on who is hot right now on the court and who is melting the ice:

In the NHL it is all about the Pittsburgh Penguins and their star Sidney Crosby - yea that guy from the Reebok commercials. Crosby in on a 17 game scoring streak with 20 goals and 15 assists, leading the Penguins to an 11 game winning streak. Better start taking note of Crosby, he may just be the NHL's guy to bring hockey more into the mainstream. Good looks and able to score - what else do we need?
The Miami Heat seem to have controlled their fire. Since calling a team meeting a few weeks ago the team has gone on a winning streak. Lebron James had 33 points and Dwayne Wade 28 more in the Heat's win over the Utah Jazz last night. Looks like a game plan is being executed as a team instead of hot shots playing on their own.
And in NYC, Raymond Felton, came alive alongside potential NBA MVP Amare Stoudamire. Stoudamire had another 30 point game against the Toronto Raptors last night, yet it was Felton who stole the show. Felton had 28 points, 11 assists, and the game winning three-pointer in the win. His last shot bounced on the rim five times prior to going in! Sometimes you need a little luck - or maybe Amare would have just slammed it in if it bounced out. Bottom line: teamwork wins games, and ultimately brings playoffs hope back to the big apple.

Urban Meyer Believes His Kids are Worth More than $20 million

University of Florida Coach Urban Meyer has announced his resignation for the end of the season. Meyer signed a six year $24 million guaranteed contract last year, therefore, by resigning, Meyer is walking away from approximately $20 million. Meyer claims to be walking away from Florida, a school he brought two BCS championships to, in order to spend more time with his family.

Meyer has three kids: a daughter who is a sophomore at Georgia Tech, a daughter who is a senior in high school, and a younger son. Meyer believes he missed out on watching his daughters play competitive volleyball and doesn't want to continue to miss out on their lives and his son's little league games.

Gotta admire a dad that loves his kids and openly admits that his kids and his marriage are more important than another big paycheck. Yet, myself being the oldest girl in a family arrangement of that of the Meyer's, I can't help but point out how the youngest Meyer, and a boy nonetheless, gets to have his dad around at a younger age and just when his sisters are leaving the house. Seems that the youngest child always get the best draw, even more so when the youngest child is a boy.

There is also much speculation that Meyer will return to coaching in the future. It will be interesting to see if he does, and if so, at what point in his life he feels that he has satisfied his role as a father and husband and is ready to give himself back to football. Will it be when his daughters finish playing college volleyball? When his son graduates college? When his grandchildren start playing sports? Clearly, his potential decision to rejoin coaching and his current resignation are sparked by particular life events that strike a chord within. At what point in life, if any, is it okay for an individual to regain the selfishness of his single days and put his family second to his own career endeavours?

Yankee Wedding Bells

This weekend, Yankee Nick Swisher will marry actress Joanna Garcia at the Breakers resort in Palm Beach. Not a bad time for a bunch of Yankees to party, since the team just locked up Derek Jeter for another several years (3-4 years for $50+ million). Jeter will unlikely attend, but instead expect to see CC Sabathia, Jamie Lynn-Siegler, Lance Bass, and even Cameron Diaz on the dance floor. Yet, will Diaz show up with or without A-Rod?

Dodger Unable to Dodge Drama

A new development was announced this week in the McCourt divorce drama. The McCourts bought the Los Angeles Dodgers years ago, but now the ownership of the team is in limbo. Here is the short story:

The McCourts bought the team in 2004 and shortly thereafter entered into an agreement that is now the subject of their divorce dispute. The agreement was allegedly created to separate the team from the McCourts other properties in case the team suffered financial hardship. The team was to be Frank McCourt's property, while the couple's real estate would become Jamie McCourt's property. Jamie adamantly denies this allegation, claiming that the team is community property, shared by the couple. The agreement was signed six times, three of which conform with Jamie's understanding of the agreement, and three of which are in line with Frank's opinion of what occurred. The couple was divorced in late 2009 and are still just revving up a lengthy divorce battle over control of the Dodgers.

Last week, Jamie rejected a mediator's decision regarding the divorce and instead proceeded to the first phase of a trial. This week the judge leading the trial ruled that the agreement signed between the couples does not give Frank sole ownership of the team. This is a huge victory for Jamie, but one that is going to draw out this battle for years into the future, unless the parties can agree on a settlement arrangement. A likely settlement would require the parties to sell the team outright and split the proceeds.

Unfortunately, at this point it is bad for baseball, the Dodgers, and L.A. if either of the McCourts continue to control the team. The team will not only be the subject of costly litigation, but also a casualty in an ugly divorce. Any other individual will bring a better image to the team and hope to Los Angeles.

McCourts - it is time to give it up. Take a check now, because otherwise your legal fees will continue to diminish your bottom line, publicly and financially.

College Bowl Games

Just when you thought you could move on from college football madness the bowl games hype starts rolling in. In order to make more money in college football, the authorities that be, decided that there should be head-to-head match ups between top ranked teams after the respective conference championships have been played. Therefore in the next month or so, there will be a bunch of bowl game match ups culminating in the Championship Game in January. Here are the major bowl games to look out for:

Oregon v. Auburn - Championship Game: This match up is for all the marbles. Yet, no one really believes that this system actually crowns a champion, since the match ups are determined without a playoff season. Nonetheless, definitely catch this game on January 10th.
Virginia Tech v. Stanford - Orange Bowl: Tech pulled out the ACC title and Stanford is arguably the best team in college football. Who will in in east vs. west?
Texas Christian v. Wisconsin - Rose Bowl: TCU may be angry for not making it in the championship game, despite being undefeated and ranked third in the country, but winning the Rose Bowl would be a great chance to prove their talents. Plus, who doesn't want to travel to L.A. to play?

Since Lebron James' "Decision" to abandon the Cleveland Cavaliers and move to the Miami Heat, today has been an anticipated day on the calendar, because it is the first time James will return to Cleveland. You would think that Lebron, and the owner of the Cavaliers, Dan Gilbert, would be over this hoopla by now, but clearly not.

It has just been revealed that Gilbert has engaged a law firm to investigate James' move to Miami. Gilbert has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to launch a tampering claim - basically saying that Miami illegally contacted James while still in Cleveland. Gilbert must be so bitter about losing James (and the millions that went with him) that he has lost all rationality. He is spending an absurd amount of money on this investigation, with the best case scenario only awarding him a draft pick! Even his executives have advised him against pursuing this investigation.

The pride of men is so strong, that sometimes they lose sight of how their actions ultimate effect their image. Lebron tried to be Mr. Good Guy with his "Decision" at the Boys and Girls Club and his new Nike campaign, but ultimately became the most hated sports figure by failing to accept any wrongdoing. And now Gilbert, unable to accept losing James, is irrationally fighting and spending to place blame elsewhere. Clearly, boys will always be boys - when will they grow up and accept their place and move on?

Feel Good Moment

Pat Summitt is a legend in college basketball. She has been the coach of the University of Tennessee's women's basketball program forever, winning numerous championships. Summitt is thought by many to be the best coach of all time.

Now, Summitt has a new feat to be proud of. Her son, Tyler Summitt, recently walked on to the Tennessee men's basketball team, and in last night's game against MTSU, Tyler Summit scored a three pointer, his first points as a Vol. Good for Tyler to find his own moment of fame - maybe it can be attributed to the miracle of Hanukkah!

Football in LA?

I have closely followed the campaigns over the last several years to bring NFL football back to Los Angeles. LA used to have two NFL teams and now has none! Crazy, right? Especially, because Los Angeles is the second largest media market in the country, and therefore, a huge money maker for the NFL.

Well, today there has been a new exciting development for football in LA. Magic Johnson, who recently sold his stake in the LA Lakers (and his Starbucks chains), announced that he has teamed up with AEG to bring a NFL team to LA. Johnson did not announce which team is in the running, but rumors are swirling around the San Diego Chargers as the likely candidate.

I would normally be skeptical of a scheme like this actually coming to fruition, but AEG has a good plan for a downtown LA stadium and the Chargers desperately need a new facility. Plus, it's my birthday so gotta be optimistic today!

Communication is the Answer

Lebron James' move to the Miami Heat with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh has not lived up to the hype. The team is 10-8, there are rumors of mutiny against the coach, and the superstars talents continue to clash on the court. Well, there was a glimmer of hope for this squad in their win yesterday against the Washington Wizards. Lebron had 20 points in the first half and Wade dominated in the second.

So whats the reason for the clear turnaround? James and Coach Spoelstra say communication is the key. The two met before the game to discuss the team's situation and the Coach stated that he hopes to continue to meet and create a better flow of conversation between all the players, including Wade and Bosh.

Sure, communication is beneficial. But doesn't the Heat realize that they only beat the Wizards, one of the worst teams in the NBA? The Wizards are 5-11 and their best player, John Wall, was sidelined for the game!

Rex Ryan had some fun with the press yesterday while discussing this week's rematch between the NY Jets and New England Patriots. Ryan, the comedic loud mouth heavyset coach of the Jets, said yesterday that, "I never realized how similar that I am to Tom Brady. I mean, the obvious physical appearance would be the first thing. The fact that he's married to a supermodel? Hello?" Ryan then revealed a picture of his wife in InStyle magazine modeling NFLShop clothes and grinned revealing, "Yeah, I'm also married to a supermodel."

Sure, Mrs. Ryan does not match Gisele's modeling career with her NFL ad, but gotta give her mad props. Guess Brady's got nothing on Ryan.

Interesting Sports Moments from the Weekend

Andre Johnson received the game ball against the Tennessee Titans, despite being ejected for a brawl against Cortland Finnegan. Johnson received the ball for catching 60+ catches in a season for the eighth year in a row.Bad timing for Coach Kubiak - nothing like rewarding a player for beating the crap out of a competitor and risking a suspension in a critical game this week!
Boise State, after arguing for years that they deserve a chance to play for the BCS title, lost to Nevada in a heartbreaker, ending the team's perfect season. The whole team is to blame for losing a 17 point lead, but the Boise State kicker, Kyle Brotzman, took the heat for missing not only an easy field goal in regulation but another one in overtime! Members of the university felt so bad for the heat the kicker was taking that they even started a facebook group in support of him.
The only light that the miserable Buffalo Bills have seen this season is through receiver Steve Johnson. Yet, in an unbelievable overtime match up against the tough Pittsburgh Steelers, Johnson was delivered the perfect ball in the endzone and dropped it, subsequently losing the game. Johnson accepted the blame, but later tweeted that he blamed the play on God. Of course he never thanked God for the three touchdowns he caught last week...

Brawl on the Field

The bullying craze is now making its way to the football field. Sure, throughout the league's history players have trash talked and gotten away with petty jabs, but this week the bullying came to a head in the Houston Texans match up against the Tennessee Titans.

Titans cornerback, Cortland Finnegan, had been pestering Texans receiver Andre Johnson all game. Johnson told Finnegan to stop taking out his frustration on him. Yet, Finnegan took the bullying another step by pushing Johnson's facemask. Johnson lost his cool and ripped off Finnegan's helmet, landing two solid punches in Finnegan's face. Finnegan was able to take off Johnson's helmet before refs broke it up. The brawl was intense and would have been a contender for best fight even in the NHL.

The players were ejected from the game and are awaiting a ruling from the league regarding fines and potential suspension for their behavior. Johnson immediately apologized after the game for his actions and accepted full responsibility.

Reminds me of Lindsey Lohan's "Cady Heron," fighting the Plastics in "Mean Girls." But a fine by the NFL will unlikely deter NFLers from trashtalking, like "Ms. Norbury's' (Tina Fey's) fuzzy assembly did for the high school mean girls.

Young's Stupidity Will Cost Him Year at Tennessee

Prior to being drafted, quarterback Vince Young's intelligence was tested, along with the other draft prospects that year, using the Wonderlic Test. Young scored a 6 out of 50 on the test, where teams look for QBs scoring 20 and above. This test did not significantly hurt Young's draft position, but the team that drafted him, the Tennessee Titans, are now probably questioning their decision.

During the Titans loss Sunday, Coach Jeff Fisher, pulled Young from the game after he injured his thumb. Young subsequently threw a tantrum by tossing his pads and helmet into the stands, arguing with Fisher in the locker room, and ultimately storming out. Young claims he was simply frustrated at Fisher for lacking confidence in him to return to the game. Well, Fisher clearly knew what he was dealing with, because Young's thumb injury ultimately required season ending surgery.

Since the incident, Young has been banned from attending all team meetings. (He is still allowed to undergo therapy on his thumb at the facility pursuant to NFL rules.) Clearly, Fisher is fed up with Young's 6 year old intelligence, because the childlike tantrums are not going to work for a starting NFL quarterback.

Titans owner will have a decision to make - keep respected coach Fisher for approx. $3 million next year or Young for $15 million. This is one of those times where the sale item is much superior to the full-priced. Guess Young will have to do some shopping for a new team next season...Maybe this time he will hire an agent with a higher score on the Wonderlic than himself.

Yesterday's College Basketball Milestones

Some College Basketball Highlights:

Duke's Coach K had his 800th win at Duke! He is the third coach to have that many wins at one school. Coach K's total win record is 873. Coach K is the only coach in history to win a college championship, World Championship, and Olympic Gold. His win count should continue to rise as Duke is a favorite again this year for the title.
Something athletic for Skidmore and South Vermont to be proud of - the teams faced off with Skidmore taking the win in the 7th overtime! This ties an NCAA record for most overtime periods.
Texas Coach, Rick Barnes, had his 500th win. He is the 50th coach in NCAA history to hit this milestone.

Dennis Rodman Hits New Low

Dennis Rodman, former flamboyant basketball star, (also previously married to Carmen Electra) called into a radio show yesterday while receiving oral sex. Rodman contacted the show to discuss the situation with the Miami Heat. Before being able to express any real opinion, Rodman was continuously interrupted and flustered by a woman in the background. When asked by the host what was going on, Rodman stated that the woman was "sucking something."

So this is how Rodman gets headlines now - embarrasses a woman by calling into a radio show while she is pleasuring him. Is Rodman so desensitized to to sexual pleasures that he must now be a real a-hole in order to get a rise? This is not outrageous, but pathetic.

Vikings Fire Coach Childress

Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings have had, to say the least, a dissappointing season. Coming off of big hopes from making it to the NFC Championship game last season and getting Favre back in the game, the team has failed to perform this season with a record of 3-7. Vikings owner responded to the failures by firing head coach, Brad Childress, yesterday. Even though the head coach usually takes the heat for the players' inability to perform, this firing seemed rooted in a personality conflict between Childress and his players.

In response to Childress' firing and the promotion of defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier to head coach, players consistently mentioned the respect and good vibes they get from Frazier, implicating the uncomfortable relationship shared with Childress. Hopefully, Frazier can get a hold on the bickering and finger pointing on and off the field, or his tenure will be quite short as well.

Just quite unfortunate for Childress who was forced to take Favre back, and then gets sacked for Favre's weak performance. Childress taking the fall for Brett Favre's poor playing, is a bit like Jen Sterger taking the fall for Favre's illicit behavior...When will Favre realize the pain he is causing others by forcing his lost Superbowl dreams?

Agent Boras Scrutinized

Since making it big by representing players like Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez ("A-Rod), competing agents have hoped for a day to catch agent Scott Boras in illegal activity. Boras has dominated the baseball market for many years, making it difficult for other agents to compete. Well now, those agents may have a chance for a little break...

Boras is now being questioned for making illegal payments to prospective players in the Dominican Republic. The NY Times reports that Boras has made payments to prospects in the Dominican that violate the Union's rules for agents. Agents are only allowed to give loans of less than $500 to prospects unless disclosed to the Union. This regulation is designed to minimize the dependence a prospect has on an agent. Boras allegedly provided players in the Dominican of upwards of $70,000!

It is unclear what punishments, if any, Boras will receive from the Union, but this activity will not go unnoticed.

Note: Boras' alleged payments to Dominican prospects are more carefully scrutinized than those made by investors and hedge funds as reported earlier this week. This is due to the additional dependency players have on the expertise of agents, as well as, the regulations agents are subject to within the confines of the Union.

Eagles Fly Over the Giants

Last night, the NY Giants faced the Philadelphia Eagles for the top spot in the NFC East. There has been so much misdirected hype over the Giants this year, that there was a glimmer of hope that the Giants could actually topple Vick and the Eagles yesterday.

The game started slow for the Giants, but the defense did manage Michael Vick in a way no team has been able to do thus far. In the second half, the Giants offense woke up and was up by one point with the ball with a chance to seal the win. QB Eli Manning, had a chance for a first down and ran for it (something he typically fails to do). Yet, as he got the first down and went to the ground to end the play, he dove, instead of slid, and fumbled the ball! Of course, the Eagles recovered and the game was history...

Eli made a rookie mistake by diving instead of sliding for the first down. (If he had slid, the fumble would not have happened and he would have been down, meaning the Eagles could not recover the ball.) Not only did Eli make an enormous mistake by diving, but he was so un-athletic he could not even hold onto the ball as he dove! Anyone who has been on a Slip n' Slide could have handled the ball. The Giants are now in seventh place in the NFC instead of on top as anticipated. Maybe now the experts will realize that Eli is a dumbfounded doofus, Coach Coughlin cannot manage his team's turnovers (there were 5!), and the Giants are unable to find anyone who can run with the ball.

Coughlin said that in reference to the turnovers, "[n]o one seems able to do anything about it." Well if the head coach is admitting defeat in managing his squad, maybe the owners should start with replacing his position. Cowher, anyone?

The Jets are the Real Deal

Mark Sanchez and the NY Jets proved themselves yesterday to be a legit Superbowl contender. After escaping some weak teams in lucky overtime losses, the Jets came from behind yesterday to take down the strong Houston Texans. With less than a minute left in the game Sanchez marched down the field to score a beautiful touchdown with ten seconds left on the clock. The composure and passing game for Sanchez made me believe that the Jets may be for real.

With this win, it may be a good time for you to jump on the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets bandwagon. Not sure who to root for this season and waiting for a good winner to stand by? Go with the Jets. But to do so, you gotta learn the Jets celebratory dance in order to fit in, so here goes:

This weekend was a major sports weekend with both the Major League Soccer and NASCAR finals taking place in Toronto and Florida, respectively. Here is the rundown of what you missed:

Major League Soccer 2010 Championships - The MLS Cup:

The Colorado Rapids took on FC Dallas in Toronto, an exciting new location for the MLS finals. The teams were tied going into the second overtime, but a Rapids substitute Macoumba Kandji got the ball, drove inside, beat a Dallas defender and took a shot . . . the ball subsequently deflected off of a Dallas defender's, George John's, thigh and over the head of his own goalkeeper! John was charged with an "own goal," meaning he scored on his own team! Tough way to lose, but definitely part of the game . . . This was Dallas' first time playing for the Cup and Colorado's first MLS championship title.

NASCAR 2010 Sprint Cup:

Jimmie Johnson won his fifth consecutive title, after heading into the race in second place. Johnson just made fewer mistakes than his competitors and it looks like he can't be stopped. Are we impressed with Johnson's milestones or are we longing for someone else to take win? Please, someone step up to the plate to break the boredom of Johnson's streak.

US Investors Look to Latin Baseball Futures

The NYTimes ran an interesting article yesterday revealing the new investment of some big players in Domincan Republic youngsters. The idea is that the investors and hedge funds front money now for young baseball prospects in the DR with the hope of receiving a big payday when the youngster gets signed to the MLB. These investors furnish trainers with facilities and resources to train boys in their young teens. When the player is then signed to a MLB team, the investors receive 50% of the player's bonuses (while an agent only gets 15%).

Sounds interesting, but is it exploitation of these desperate young teens? Many of the boys forgo formal schooling for this baseball training and are rumored to possibly being intertwined in steroid use. Moreover, the facilities vary between the camps, from state-of-the-art to cramped quarters resembling a prison with barbed wire.

The bottom line is that there is no regulation of investment in Latin baseball futures as there are in other investments. With this investment, boys are encouraged to forego schooling and other opportunities to make US investors a profit. Money is money and as usual it seems to put our priorities a bit out of whack.

Derek Jeter, the hotshot shortstop for the NY Yankees is now a free agent (meaning he can sign with any team). Jeter just completed the 10th year of his deal with the Yankees, and has been offered a new three-year deal worth $21 million per year (the same amount he earned in the last year of his 10 year deal).

Jeter, however, is hesitant to sign on the dotted line as he is eager to have a deal for five or six years, since he is getting up there at 37 years of age, the oldest starting shortstop in the league. Moreover, Jeter's batting numbers have been decreasing and he sure needs to lock in the cash before additional old age sets in.

Seems like Jeter is also trying to reel in a leading lady with his new found maturity, as he has been seen frolicking around Los Angeles with girlfriend actress Minka Kelly. Just as we were celebrating the engagement of Ochocinco and his "basketball wife," another real life NBA player companion, Eva Longoria, filed for divorce from bball player Tony Parker. Longoria filed the divorce papers yesterday in Los Angeles after three years of marriage.

It is rumored that Parker's infidelity led to the divorce. Most recently, Parker has allegedly been having an affair with an ex-teammate's wife, Erin Barry. Longoria found numerous text messages on Parker's phone between her husband and Barry. (Barry and her husband Brent are currently going through their own divorce proceedings.) There are also additional rumors of Parker having an affair earlier in their marriage with a woman through facebook.

Chad Ochocinco, the receiver for the Cincinnatti Bengals, or better known as the VH1's "Ultimate Catch," just proposed to his girlfriend Evelyn Lozada. Ochocinco proposed with a 10 carat ring leading Lozada to tweet, "I'm no rabbit but 10 carats looks good on me!! Let the hating begin . . ."

College Basketball Tip-Off

Since college students like to make everything a party, it only makes sense for the college basketball tip-off to be a 24 hour affair around the country. The games started last night at 11:59 p.m. EST and will end around 1:30 a.m. EST on Wednesday.

Of all the match ups the one to take note of is the women's game between No. 1 ranked Connecticut and No. 2 ranked Baylor. UConn is currently on a 79 game win streak after destroying Holy Cross on Sunday. Yet, it is this game against Baylor that will be the first test of UConn's abilities this season after losing three starters from last year's squad. Check out the game on ESPN2 at 6 p.m. EST.

Note that UConn has not lost since April of 2008! And the team is only nine games short of the UCLA men's basketball win streak record of 88 games. This win streak is definitely more impressive than "Mad Men"'s three peat for the Emmy for best drama.

Vick's Redemption

I got some slack the last couple days for choosing not to highlight this week's Monday Night Football match up between rivals Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles. Interestingly, the complaints came from Skins fans who wanted more attention for their team that has finally shown a bit of spark after years of disappointing performances. Well, maybe I should have previewed the MNF game, but not for the sake of Skins fans, because it was Eagles quarterback Michael Vick that came alive and dominated the field.

Vick scored a record SIX touchdowns in the game leading the Eagles to a 58-29 victory. He is the first quarterback to score four passing touchdowns, two rushing (running) touchdowns, and have at least 300 yards passing and 50 yards rushing in one game. Moreover, Vick still has not turned over the ball all season! The Eagles are now tied with the NY Giants for first place in the division and the two will face off next weekend.

What is even more ridiculous about Vick's performance last night, is that it followed the news of the Redskins signing their quarterback, Donovan McNabb, who used to be the Eagles star QB, to a five year $78 million deal (with $40 million guaranteed)! McNabb previously got benched, threw three interceptions, and embarrassingly lost, but clearly he is the real winner with the money rolling his way. Some say Vick got redemption last night for his dog fighting days, but ultimately it will come down to a new multi-million dollar contract for him to feel back on top.

Here are some highlights for the match ups in the NFL this weekend:

NY Jets v. Cleveland Browns: For the last decade no one has ever thought of the Browns as a threat, yet with their win last week against Brady and his Pats, the Jets are taking an extra look at what the Browns have to offer. This is a significant match up for the Jets, as their head coach, Rex Ryan, faces off against his twin brother, the defensive coach for the Browns.
Tennessee Titans v. Miami Dolphins: Watch for the debut of Randy Moss on the Titans. This is his third team of the season - an unprecedented feat in the NFL. Hopefully he can make this relationship work as it is likely his last chance in the NFL.
The Atlanta Falcons won last night to get the best record in the NFC. Can the NY Giants stay at the top with a win against Dallas? Dallas is in the pooper this season, but their rivalry with the Giants is strong and with a new coach this week maybe there will be some fire.

X Games star, Travis Pastrana, is making a move to NASCAR. The X Games phenom won over the crowd and earned the awards, first on two wheels and then on four. Pastrana now intends to race Toyota cars in NASCAR races starting next year. Pastrana has yet to be approved by NASCAR, but seems to have all the other pieces in place.

Sure NASCAR is a much stronger money making machine than the X Games, but will Pastrana's talents carry over? It's too soon to tell whether Pastrana will take home the cup, but there is sure to be an increase in the female demographic tuning in to NASCAR races with that scruff and charm.

Pacquiao v. Margarito

This weekend, boxer Manny Pacquiao will continue his run for a title in his eighth weight class! (Boxers are matched up based on size so imagine a guy fitting into eight classes throughout his career and winning them all! One word: unprecedented.) Pacquiao will fight Mexican boxer, Antonio Margarito who has only recently been caught up in a cheating scandal. Margarito was found wrapping a plaster like substance in his hand wraps and was subsequently barred and suspended from fighting. Now, as a reward for coming back to the game he is getting his biggest payday yet by fighting Pacquiao. Not exactly the guy you want to get a big check after cheating his way to the top.

I do not expect you to thrown down for this pay per view match, or to support a cheater, but its worth recognizing the achievements of Pacquiao and the risk he is taking by argreeing to fight Margarito - a talented boxer who seriously damages his opponents. Look for the update on Monday for who pulled out this win - maybe the Mexicans will have something to cheer about should Margarito put a halt to Pacquiao's run for a title in his eight weight class.

To those Californians reading this, you may be thinking that a "double-double" is a burger at In-n-Out. True, but in sports, a "double-double" is when a player, in one game, accumulates a double-digit amount total in two of five categories: points, rebounds, assists (passing to someone who scores), steals, and blocked shots. These are fairly common achievements by star players in the NBA and NCAA.

Yet, a "triple-double," when a players accumulates a double digit number in three of the five categories, is much more rare. For example, the best player may achieve a tripe-double in 10% of his games in one season.

Well, last night Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant, achieved a triple-double in the team's win against the Sacramento Kings. He had double digits in points, rebounds, and assists.

Randy Moss to Tennessee

So the Minnesota Vikings traded for vocal superstar wide receiver Randy Moss and then sent him packing just a couple of weeks later. Despite the team openly regretting the trade, the Tennessee Titans picked up Moss after their no. 1 receiver suffered an injury last week. (Shockingly, no other teams went after the future Hall-of-Famer Moss.)

The Titans are excited about adding Moss to the lineup even though he has almost no respect for authority. Moss wants what he wants and when he doesn't get it, he likes to go against his team, by giving up on the field and speaking out against his coach and teammates. Sounds like a real winner, right?

Well, Jeff Fisher, coach of the Titans, is a solid leader and plans to reign in the rebel. Moss could have a big impact for the Titans who are have a record of 5(wins)-3(losses). The Titans passed on Moss in the 1998 NFL draft, and were not going to let that talent pass by them again, regardless of the size of his ego.

South Carolina's Loss to Kentucky is Sorority Girl's Most Devastating Moment

Although I implore you all to become sports fans, I hope you do not take it to the extreme of this University of South Carolina sorority girl. Her Gamecocks just lost a football game to University of Kentucky (a bit embarrassing since Kentucky football has a disgraceful history) and she is having an emotional breakdown. As her boyfriend publicizes this humiliating moment by filming her hysterics and mascara running down her face, she is shocked that her football team previously beat a no. 1 ranked Alabama, yet still lost to Kentucky. She even admits that she would have expected to lose to Kentucky in basketball but not football. Maybe she tailgated a bit too much that day or was upset for other reasons (maybe angry at a boyfriend that would post her breakdown on the Internet), but nonetheless this girl's pathetic, yet hilarious, moment has made her famous.

French Soccer Coach Sues for Severance

Remember France's embarrasing performance and its aftermath at the 2010 World Cup?

Not only did the French squad fail to make it out of its group, but player Nicolas Aneika was expelled, the team subsequently went on strike, and the coach disrespected South Africa by failing to shake the opposing coach's hand after a match. These "grave errors" led the French soccer federation to fire French coach, Raymond Domenech. Domenech is now suing the federation for $4.1 million in severance pay, claiming he was a scapegoat for the team's performance.

Derrick Rose Sends Thorns

Chicago Bulls basketball star, Derrick Rose, failed to show up to film his cameo yesterday in the show "The Good Wife." Although the show is filmed in NYC, it takes place in Chicago and likes to use local celebrities in cameos. CBS sent a car and booked a flight for Rose to NYC, but when the car arrived at Rose's home in Chicago the driver was told that Rose would not be going to NYC. The Bulls did not have practice on Tuesday so it is unclear why Rose felt as though he could breach his contract with CBS and be a no-show.

Clearly nothing has changed with the new generation of superstars...they still live in their own world.

The SF Misfits are Unlikely Champions!

No one thought that they could do it, but the SF did the impossible and won the World Series last night by beating the Texas Rangers. This is the first title for the Giants since 1954 and the first for the San Francisco Giants, since the team relocated to California from New York. Despite the team's great pitching, the squad is more well known for its hair styles and love of marijuana - quite a good fit for its home city.

Although winning was a bit surreal, the players sound as though they are enjoying a high:

Closer Brian Wilson with his secret power beard felt "stoic" but that he "want[s] to rage, right now." Not sure how the "rage" is going to happen with his stocisim and slow talking, especially, because all he could say about winning was that it was "sweet."
Barry Zito reflected on the night saying "Holy Crap, this is pretty special."

Keep the high going, because it may be another 50 years before you can recapture the feeling.

After only three weeks, the Minnesota Vikings have placed wide receiver Randy Moss on waivers. Moss is an all-star receiver the Vikings recently traded for in a deal with the New England Patriots. By being placed on waivers, Moss is now available for other teams to scoop up. He has approximately $3.5 million left on his contract, that the Vikings will be liable for should no other team sign Moss.

So to clarify, the Vikings just gave up arguably their best receiver after already relinquishing a draft pick to the Patriots to acquire him, and now may also still have to pay him $3.5 million! This is like giving up your Saturday to drive to the outlets and then deciding after walking through one store that you do not want to shop and you drive home. You give up your Saturday and still come home with no good finds.

Sounds like a completely ridiculous decision. The backstory here, is that Moss is lazy on the field and likes to speak out against his team to the press. In last week's game, Moss arguably gave up a touchdown pass and then complained to the media about the Vikings' game strategy. This is no shocker for the Vikings since Moss has a history of being a spoiled brat, but just unfortunate for Vikings fans who are stuck with the consequences of poor management.

Yet, late in the game he got hit hard in the face and was carted off the field with a laceration on his chin. New England ultimately pulled out the win and Favre looked close to having hit rock bottom. Could it be karma for those naughty texts to Jenn Sterger?
Benched: Sweet old Donovan McNabb, the new quarterback for the Washington Redskins (after being cast out on the street by the Philadelphia Eagles last season), continued to disappoint yesterday in the Skins' loss to the Detroit Lions. Coach Shanahan actually benched McNabb with two minutes left in the game. Odd message to send to your starter - does time out still work on adults?
Rock Bottom: Dallas lost again yesterday and this time to the weak Jacksonville Jaguars. Yet, vocal owner Jerry Jones continues to claim that coach Wade Phillips' job is safe and secure. If so, then who is to blame for the failure to perform? This year's C'boys are not lacking in the talent department, they just fail to show up week after week. Not going to lie, its nice to get some peace and quiet from those trash talking Dallas fans for a change!

Last night in Game 4 of the 2010 World Series, SF rookie duo, pitcher Madison Bumgarner and catcher Buster Posey, were the first rookie pair to win a World Series game. Bumgarner is only 20 years old - the fourth youngest starter to win a World Series game! His amazing performance last night was mainly due to his incredible ability to throw strikes on his first pitch to each batter (he averaged strikes 50+% of the time in his first pitch during the season, but last night reached 70+%).

Game 5 of the series, which SF now leads 3-1, is tonight in Texas with star pitcher Cliff Lee returning to the stage. Tune in to see whether Cliff Lee can pull it out and keep the Rangers alive.

Little Eli on the Way

The NY Post reported that Eli Manning, quarterback for the NY Giants, and wife Abby, are pregnant with their first child. Abby, 26, is due in the spring. The two met in college at Ole Miss and have been married for two and a half years. They now live in Hoboken.

Hopefully this child will be born with a throwing arm, otherwise it is going to be tough growing up in the Manning family, with grandfather Archie, uncle Payton, and dad Eli, all being NFL superstars.

Explosive Hitting in Game 1

Despite the match up of two all-star pitchers in Game 1 of the World Series (Cliff Lee of the Texas Rangers took on Tim Lincecum of the SF Giants), the teams scored a total of 18 runs! The Giants pulled out the win with 11 runs and forced Rangers manager to pull Cliff Lee in the 5th inning. Between the two teams, 12 pitchers were used throughout the game!

Even with the great hitting by the Giants, former Giant all-star batter, Barry Bonds , stated that one day he would like to be a hitting coach for his old team. Bonds said that he "[has] a gift and sooner or later I have to give it away. . .I have to share it. Hopefully, I will get the opportunity here." Well, it doesn't look like the Giants need you Barry - especially since you are soon to face perjury charges in federal court for denying your use of steroids. Why don't you focus on not going to jail before you try to get a fresh start in baseball.

What is it about Kim Kardashian? Her good looks? Her big tush? Or her crazy family? I am not quite sure what makes her The cat's meow for football players, but to NFLers she is the end all be all.

This week. New York Giants players Hakeem Nicks, Steve Smith, and Mike Boley were drooling to get near Kim at club Greenhouse. The footballers were initially rejected from entering Kim's VIP area but after some drooling and begging, the players will permited to go in and meet Kim.

Hopefully this was a humbling experience for these players, who need to remember that they have only won a few games this season and are not playing like the stars they think they are.

Defeated? - Heat lose to Celtics in Season Opener

The 2010 NBA season opened last night with Lebron James and the supposedly unstoppable Miami Heat, with the supporting cast of Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, losing to the Boston Celtics, 80-88. Hopes of an undefeated season were quickly distinguished as the Big Three committed 15 of the team's 17 turnovers. Lebron still had a big night with 31 points, but Wade and Bosh failed to adequately support their new star. The Heat will still be a powerhouse, but it is going to take more time than expected for the Big Three to click. Just remember how the cast of "Friends" produced more natural interactions after the first few seasons...Miami, have faith. Your time to reign is still approaching.

Big Paycheck worth a few Tough New Yorkers

Tune in tonight for Game 1 of the 2010 World Series where the Texas Rangers will take on the San Francisco Giants. Rangers superstar pitcher Cliff Lee will take the mound for likely his last series as a Ranger.

Lee has been in talks with the New York Yankees since July to be another, uh well sellout. Lee will be a free agent at the end of this year (meaning he is free to sign with another team). If traded to the Yankees, Lee will likely earn a contract between five and seven years for $100-$150 million!

Even after Lee's wife was spit on, heckled at, and taunted by the Yankees fans during the ALCS series agains the Rangers, she is still ready to move to the big city. Mrs. Lee and her hubby have been quick to excuse the Yanks from their disrespectful behavior. Clearly, the paycheck is worth a few spitballs and insults.

After making the controversial move to the Miami Heat from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Lebron James faced the wrath of the public and the media, becoming one of the most despised individuals in the public eye. James made the public's perception of himself even worse by subsequently blaming race for his low ratings. This just further fueled the fire.

Now, James has released a new Nike commercial asking the public, "Should I be who you want me to be?" With the new NBA season starting, James and Nike are challenging the public's perception of James. The video, which can be seen above, portrays James in different stages of his life with a comedic and insightful tone.

I appreciate James' insightful approach to regain his image, but at the end of the day, a player who makes millions and millions from fan appreciation should just shut up and conform somewhat to what the fans want him to be. James should be what we want him to be, because otherwise it will be money out of his pocket. And moreover, this video continues to portray James as the arrogrant baller we have grown distaste for. An apology of any kind would have more of an effect than a ploy to further challenge his fans and the public.

Paul the Octopus died today in Germany after a long career of predicting World Cup Soccer winners. Paul died of natural causes at the old age (for an Octopus) of 2 1/2 years old. He successfully predicted the winners of seven of the 2010 World Cup matches, including picking Spain over the Netherlands in the championship game. He will be missed.

Devastating News for America's Team

Last night's Monday Night Football match up was a classic between America's team, the Dallas Cowboys, and the New York Giants. The Cowboys getting off to a slow start this year had something to prove. Unfortunately, after being up 10-7 and having all the momentum, Dallas QB Tony Romo, went down with a broken collarbone. The Cowboys stayed in the game but ultimately fell to the Giants 41-35 and are now 1-5 on the season.

Romo will be out for at least 6-8 weeks, making the Cowboys prospects this season look dim. I bet Romo now wishes Jessica Simpson was around for better luck and to nurse him back to health!

The Book You have Been Waiting For...

I know you have been holding your breath waiting for its release, but Tiger Woods' mistress, Loredana Jolie, has announced that her tell-all book regarding the details of her affair with Woods will be released next month. The book will share some steamy details, but I wouldn't expect anything more than gossip from the stripper who says that while with Tiger she was "like on the seventh cloud, especially from a sexual perspective." Jolie has a hard time separating the "cloud 9" and "seventh heaven" concepts.

This book will be the first of many - hopefully the quality will improve...

Again it was another huge sports weekend. Here is what you missed:

NFL: Lots of ugly performances and weak teams threatening leaders - Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler had four interceptions in his loss to the Washington Redskins. Superbowl champs were stunned by the crappy Cleveland Browns. And Aaron Rodgers got off lucky with his two interceptions, because his team pulled out a win against rivals Minnesota Vikings and Brett Favre, who had three interceptions and couldnt score the winning touchdown with less than a minute left.

But tune in tonight for the game of the week on Monday Night Football - NY Giants v. Dallas Cowboys. This game is a must win for the C'boys who have had a rough start to the season and need to take down division rival Giants.

NCAA Football: Another No. 1 ranked team, Oklahoma, fell this week leaving the leader board up for grabs. Auburn stepped into number 1 with a win over LSU, with Oregon falling in at no. 2, and Boise State staying strong at no. 3. With how the season has gone, there will be more shake ups coming our way, but Boise State better start praying for these other big names to lose in order to have a chance at the title game.

MLB: The World Series is set and shockingly it comes down to the San Francisco Giants against the Texas Rangers. This is the Rangers' first World Series appearance in franchise history (and the Giants' first since 1954)! MLB may be bummed about this matchup, because it is sure to suffer in the TV ratings with the weak following of these teams, but doesn't everyone love an underdog matchup? Game 1 - Wednesday 8pm. est. Tune In.

The NFL's Misdirected Concern

The sports talk last week focussed on the NFL's policy to suspend and further fine players for dangerous hits on the field. Responses to the policy were mixed, but there were fewer on-field dangerous hits this week - coincidence? Well, despite fewer scary collisions on the field, the off-the-field behavior of the NFL players continues to be worrisome.

Tennessee Titan wide receiver, Kenny Britt, was involved in a fight at Club Karma in Nashville Tennessee on Friday night. Britt allegedly punched a guy after he had fallen to the ground from fighting with a third individual. The victim stated that he went to the hospital and received stitches above his eye. He is planning on pressing charges.

Despite this brawl Britt showed up as usual to his game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and had an all-star appearance scoring three touchdowns. (I am especially focused on this story, because I benched Britt on my fantasy team yesterday due to inconsistency and therefore lost forty five points to my score! Huge bummer.) What about the NFL and team's discipline policy??? A player can somehow get fined and suspended for hits on the field, but gets to play (and earn huge bonuses) after beating up a civilian? The team did actually suspend Britt for the first quarter, but is that enough? Maybe the NFL and the Titans will address this issue further this week, but Britt still walked away with a moment of fame after avoiding a moment of shame.

MLB

Tonight see the Yanks face the Rangers, where Texas will try again to close it out and head to the World Series. (8 pm est.)
And since the SF Giants failed to close out the Phillies last night at home, they will now be forced to head back east and win on foreign soil. (Saturday 4 pm est.)

NFL

As you are aware, Sunday is all about football. This week just catch a few minutes and see if you can see the hits get softer. The players are worried about getting suspended and fined so it will be interesting to see if the game changes.

NCAA Football

The SEC showdown of the week is fourth ranked Auburn v. sixth ranked LSU. You won't see any southern charm at this match-up because the pride of the south is on the line. (Saturday 3:30 pm est. CBS)
Wisconsin, ranked 15th, takes on Iowa, ranked 13th, will be a tight match. Will it be the corn or the cheese that wins out? (Saturday 3:30 pm est. ABC/ESPN)

Rooney Agrees to 5 Year Deal with ManU

Wayne Rooney, arguably the best soccer player in the world, has just agreed to a five year deal with the English club Manchester United. This is quite a turn of events after Rooney has been whining all week about his time at Man U and how he wants out due to the team's failure to improve its roster. Apparently, the two sides reconciled and although the contract is for an unknown amount, it is clear that a big paycheck was signed.

Rooney has had a bit of a troubled past on and off the field. After being the Player of the Year two years ago with 30+ goals during the season, he scored only one goal last season. The club claimed Rooney was suffering from an ankle injury, which Rooney then adamantly denied. Rooney also appeared in the tabloids with an alleged affair with a prostitute while his wife was pregnant - not a good image, even if you are trying to be a bad boy.

Rooney is only 24 years old and has millions under his belt. With that lack of maturity and financial surplus its unlikely that the drama will end anytime soon.

Baseball Update - Year of the Underdog?

It looks like it is going to be the year of the underdog in the MLB. The SF Giants have the opportunity to go to the World Series tonight by beating out the Philadelphia Phillies. And on Friday night, the Texas Rangers go home to try to knock out the almighty Yankees.

If these two teams can pull out wins it will be bigger than Jason Wu beating out the Oscar de la Rentas for Michele Obama's inaugural gown and Roberto Benigni beating out Tom Hanks and Nick Nolte for Best Actor at the Oscars for his performance in "Life is Beautiful." (Although Benigni's winning speech will never be topped by any game winning celebration!)

NFL needs Magic to come back to LA?

Earlier this week Sportsgirl reported that Magic Johnson sold his share of the Los Angeles Lakers. Well Magic has increased his liquidity by also selling his share of Starbucks outlets. These business moves have driven the speculation as to what Magic may invest in next .... well, word on the street is that his goal is to help bring the NFL back to Los Angeles. (Yes, the National Football League, not basketball.)

Johnson stated that he "really, really wants the NFL to come back to L.A." However, he has not had any discussions with the league itself.

Clearly, this talk is all very premature, but I am down with anything and everything to bring the NFL back to LA, the second largest media city in the U.S. It's just crazy that there is no team in la-la land, especially with all the money and investors involved in this move over the last decade. Maybe Johnson has the "magic" needed to make the NFL come to Hollywood.

Mark Cuban Gives some Free Advice

Mark Cuban, the outspoken owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, was spotted the other night at a NYC restaurant chatting with The Situation. Apparently, The Situation, approached Cuban with his business partners to get advice on a bunch of deals he is considering. The "Jersey Shore" star has marketed himself well with "Dancing with the Stars," a workout DVD, and sponsorship of a protein-infused vodka. He is now also considering investing in a gym at The Plaza.

I applaud The Situation for being so focused on the next steps of his career, but do you really see him being a good fit for The Plaza? Maybe the NYC icon is really going down hill.

Topic of the Week

After this past NFL weekend games, the talk of the town is the NFL's declaration to suspend players for violent conduct. The NFL previously imposed fines for these flagrant fouls, but the new sanctions were brought on by three major hits that occurred this weekend between players on the field. The league hopes that suspensions will deter players from committing these hits and coaches from teaching their players to hit/tackle in a particularly dangerous way.

Although this may initially appear as a sensible policy to protect players, it has become very controversial. First, the policy is unclear in that it fails to define what type of hit will be considered dangerous or flagrant. As a result, players and coaches are not sure how to act in response to the policy in this week's games, making them subject to fines and suspensions. Secondly, the policy arguably changes the nature of the game. Football is about big hits. That is a huge reason for its popularity, especially in TV ratings. It is understandable that, i.e. helmet to helmet, hits are illegal, but the other types of hits at issue have been part of the game forever and to take them out now significantly changes the game. Thirdly, as one former player and coach pointed out, playing football is a privilege. Players have the option to not play in the NFL if they do not want to get hit. No one is forcing them to be on the field.

Sure, the NFL has a responsibility to protect players, but does this policy go too far? IS the NFL acting rashly in response to one weekend of big hits? Tell me what YOU think!

Forbidden Shoe

The NBA has banned players from wearing the new Athletic Propulsion Lab's $300 Concept 1 basketball shoe. The shoe, designed by twins Adam and Ryan Goldston, former USC basketball walk-on players, contains a spring based system that is meant to increase a player's vertical lift.

The NBA rules state that a player may not wear a shoe that creates an undue competitive advantage. But is this really an "undue competitive advantage?" Can't all players choose to wear the shoe? Shoes are not like steroids, they are simply equipment for the game that is available for all.

Underdog Rangers

The Texas Rangers just a couple of months ago were in the midst of a tumultuous bankruptcy proceeding where Nolan Ryan beat out Mark Cuban to get control of the team. Well now, the Rangers are just one game away from the World Series!!! And to add to their credit, it is the Yankees that they are about to take down to get there - yes, the Yankees, the team with the highest payroll and stacked line-up.

Lakers Lose their Magic

Remember NBA player Magic Johnson from back in the day? Of course you do, because he is one of the best bballers of all time. Well, since his days as a player (Magic played all of his 13 seasons in the NBA with the Lakers), Magic briefly coached the Lakers, became a broadcaster, and bought a 4.5% stake in the Lakers franchise. Yesterday, it was announced that Magic sold his share in the team to Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, a 25 year Lakers ticket holder and more importantly, successful physician, buisnessman, and teacher.

Apparently, Magic sold his share with the hope of one day purchasing a larger stake in a professional team. (Recently, Magic has shown interest in purchasing a large stake in the Detroit Pistons.) Can the Lakers go on without Magic on their side?

Sanchez's New Girlfriend?

NY Post today reports that cutie Jets QB Mark Sanchez is chasing sports reporter Lindsay McCormick to be his new girlfriend. The two have known each other for a long time, but McCormick is based in Portland while Sanchez is in NY, so the two have seen little of each other as of late. Moreover, McCormick denies being anything more than friends with Sanchez.

Who knows what's really happening between these two, but lucky for you blondes, looks like Sanchez has moved on from the brunettes!

Fight with Spouse Led Seau Off of Cliff

Former NFL Pro-Bowler and member of the 1990s All-Decade team, Junior Seau, was just hospitalized after driving his SUV off of a cliff in California. Seau only suffered minor injuries.

Late Sunday night Seau was arrested at his home for felony spousal report after his live-in girlfriend called the cops. Seau was put into a detention facility, but eventually released around 3 a.m. Monday morning after posting bail. Shortly thereafter, he was found in his car after driving off of the cliff.

It is unclear why Seau drove his car off of that cliff, but it is no coincidence that a domestic violence incident occurred shortly beforehand. Seau, men constantly claim that their girlfriends/wives make them "want to jump off a cliff" - you are not supposed to actually go through with it...

Matchmaker for T.O.

We all saw on "The T.O. Show" that Cincinnati Bengal, Terrell Owens, could use some serious help landing a woman in his life. T.O. himself has finally woken up too and has hired a matchmaking service to set him up with a Kim Kardashian look-a-like. T.O. hired matchmaker service Kelleher International, which charges anywhere between $15,000 and $150,000 for its services. T.O. better be prepared to write a big check, because we all know that it is expensive to hide a large ego.

MLB:

Roy Oswalt led the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 2 to tie up the series against the San Francisco Giants. Oswalt not only struck out eight batters but he also raced around the bases to score a run. Philly fans had lots to cheer about Sunday, as the Philadelphia Eagles beat out the Atlanta Falcons, Michael Vick's old team, earlier in the day.

NFL:

Big Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers returned to his team with a win after being suspended due to some female indiscretions in the offseason.

The Dallas Cowboys, America's team, hit rock bottom by losing to the Minnesota Vikings yesterday. The Cowboys who were a Superbowl favorite have squandered all of their talent with penalties. There is little sympathy for the C'boys who continue to make the same penalties week after week - yes the players are at fault, but shouldn't the coaches do some better parenting too?

NCAA Football:

Wisconsin badgered the formerly No. 1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, allowing Oklahoma to take the No. 1 spot in the BCS rankings. Boise State is still hanging around at No. 3 in the rankings, but its championship bowl series chances are not looking good.

Building Business off of Infidelity

Tia Robbins, wife of football player Fred Robbins, recently formed a company called Off the Market Events, aimed at keeping athletes together with their girlfriends and wives. The company plans and hosts couple events and private dinners, with the hope of expanding into couple retreats.

Tia and her husband have been together for many years and are expecting their first child. Throughout their relationship she has had to combat the perception that all athletes cheat, and felt that this company could help steer athlete couples in the right direction.

It will be interesting to see whether Off the Market actually produces any results in the athlete community, but regardless of its success at least now an athlete's wife is profiting off of the infidelity of those cheating men.

Sacrifice?

What do you think of when you hear the word "sacrifice?" Outside of the religious context, you probably picture a mother caring for a child, or even a mate giving up some closet space for their partner (and the sake of their relationship). Well, for Washington Wizards basketball player Gilbert Arenas, the term "sacrifice" takes on a whole different meaning.

Arenas was fined yesterday for his "sacrifice" for teammate Nick Young. Arenas faked a knee injury in the Wizards Tuesday night game so that Young could get more playing time. Fortunately for the Wizards, the team pulled out a win and Young had 24 points.

Unfortunately, Arenas is stuck paying a fine and the fans who paid good money for their tickets to the game were deprived of seeing star player Arenas play. Who does Arenas think that he is to make the decision as to whom plays? He is not the coach. It is like you deciding to have your intern do you big presentation for you. Think your boss or your client would appreciate that?

Maybe Arenas' repentance mode for bringing serious guns into the Wizards lockerroom last season is prompting him to make "sacrifices," but hopefully he tweaks his understanding of the term before he acts again.

Agent Corruption

In southern universities the Greek rush process is corrupt. Where I went to school, older sorority girls would buy gifts for prospective sisters and use frat boys to promote their sororities, all in violation of school rules and the Panhellenic Council (the governing body of the Greek community) regulations. Although the rush process usually worked out in the end for all prospective freshman girls, it would have been more fun to get some additional Tiffany & Co. jewlery along the way (or at least not watch my friends get these extra special gifts).

Well, the draft process doesn't always work out for college athletes, especially, when the system's corruption overwhelms the true talent of the players. Former agent Jon Luchs recently told Sports Illustrated that he paid college athletes to hopefully sign with him upon entering the pros, which is in clear violation of the NCAA and NFLPA rules. Luchs specifically named players involved in his schemes, some of which admitted to the wrongdoing. He even claims that ESPN analyst, Mel Kiper, Jr., the frat boy in this scenario, assisted other agents in signing some of these athletes and improperly inflated the draft rankings of these athletes. (Kiper adamantly denies any wrongdoing.)

Luchs' allegations reveal serious financial implications to players, agents, universities, and apparently even ESPN analysts. This is not a matter of a corrupt sorority bid, but rather the future career of an athlete. That being said, it is time that the NCAA, NFLPA, NFL, and other leagues and agents start cooperating to monitor the business collectively. Only by sharing information can these amateurs get a fair chance at the pros.

The Next Round: MLB Playoff Picture

The MLB is divided into the American and National Leagues. Each league crowns a champion that then go head to head in the World Series. Well, after last night's Texas Rangers victory, the fields have been set. In the American League, the Texas Rangers will face the NY Yankees, and in the National League, the Philadelphia Phillies are matched up against the San Francisco Giants.

American League Division Series:

The Yankees seem to always be a favorite, but the Rangers are coming with some strong momentum. The Rangers postseason series win against the Tampa Bay Rays is the first in the team's franchise history! And more importantly, it wasn't only the pitching of Cliff Lee that got them there, but also their heads up aggressive base running. (In last night's game, runs were scored from two infield hits!)

National League Division Series:
The pitching is the talk of the 2010 postseason, but the match up between the Phillies and Giants will be the ultimate pitching exhibition. The Phillies have the big three, Halladay, Oswalt, and Hamels, agains the Giants' top four (Lincecum, Cain, Sanchez, Bumgarner). Every game of the series will be a showdown with these lineups. The Phillies are hoping to be the next dynasty - if they win this series they will be the first NL team to reach the World Series three years in a row since the 1940s! (Now mind you, there is much more these Phillies will have to prove in the World Series to truly be a dynasty.)

In Case you got Sleepy Last Night....

Rex Ryan and his Jets beat out Favre and his Vikes 29-20 last night in a torrential downpour in New York. It was all about the defenses until Favre woke up in the second half. He had some beautiful touchdown passes (his first connecting with newly signed Randy Moss), but also some bad snaps and an interception. Favre looked like an inconsistent rookie, but you still loved him, because he went for it all despite the tabloids and the tendonitis in his elbow. Yet, the Jets took the win and march on.

Earlier in the night the SF Giants closed out the series with the Atlanta Braves. The Giants get to move on towards the Pennant, but the night was about honoring Braves manager Bobby Cox who retired after last night's game. Cox managed for 29 years in the majors and had a record 14 straight division titles with the Braves! This is a feat that we will never again see in our lifetime. Cox was a winner, but his emotional farewell spoke to how much more this game meant to him.

Oral Sex Makes Some Hockey Execs Uncomfortable

Last night in the NY Rangers v. NY Islanders match up, Isles defenseman James Wisniewski made an oral sex gesture to Rangers player Sean Avery after Avery sprayed the Isles goalie with the ice. The gesture was clearly seen by all, yet many of the teams' execs ignored the issue in post game press talks.

Islanders coach Scott Gordon dismissed the incident and then walked out of the room. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said he didn't see the obscene gesture but that he would have one of his VPs look into it.

Wisniewski's gesture was lewd and seen by the viewers, yet for some reason this incident made the NHL execs uncomfrtable and one that they did not want to discuss. Fortunately for them, these men felt comfortable looking the other way, but how about those parents who had to explain what that meant to their kids?

Guinness signs "The Bus"

You probably only know Guinness beer as the one to avoid, because its full of calories. Well Guinness is now making a push to be a major presence in the NFL by signing Pittsburgh Steelers legend Jerome Bettis. Guinness challenges fans to share their most athletic moment of courage and character with the winner sharing a week in Dallas with Bettis at the NFL Superbowl 2011.

Guinness has never been a staple of NFL football due to it European roots and high caloric content. Well, now the company is pushing to make a splash in the money making football arena with a spokesman who is not exactly the specimen of physical fitness. When the GAP needed a fashion icon, they hired Sarah Jessica Parker, and now Guinness needs an NFLer and they got "The Bus!"

Monday Night Football Drama

Tonight the Minnesota Vikings take on the New York Jets. This match up is full of peripheral drama so here is the juice to focus on:

Randy Moss: Randy Moss was recently traded from the New England Patriots to the Minnesota Vikings. Tonight is his first game with his old team (he previously played for the Vikes) and he gets to face an old division rival in the Jets. Moss will be out to prove he still has it in his old age so look to see some spectacular one hand grabs in the end zone.

Brett Favre: Yes, this grandpa QB is full of drama. First, Favre is facing his old team the Jets in this Monday night showdown. Favre's time with the Jets was brief and fairly unenlightening so the Jets will want to put him in his place.

Secondly, Favre is facing the team in the center of his scandal with Jen Sterger. As was recently reported, it is rumored that Favre sent racy messages and photos to a former Jets employee, Sterger. These messages have been released and its hard to deny Favre's voice. In addition, two Jets masseuses have come out accusing Favre of inappropriate behavior. Although nothing has been proven, the NFL is now involved and investigating. Tune in, cause you may just get a peek into the not so perfect side of Favre.

MLB Instant Replay Discussions

This year's MLB postseason is already spurring more talk about implementing instant replay into the game. Last night, two managers were ejected from their respective games after arguing with the umps over calls - Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon and Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. Instant replay would minimize arguments, ejections, and most importantly, the risk that a game (or even a series) would be decided on a poor call by an ump. Despite the benefits, many feel that instant replay would effect the integrity game - its like buying a pack of cookies instead of baking them yourself.

Nonetheless, representatives from the MLBPA, the players' union, are trying to set up a meeting between players, umpires, and the Commissioner's office, after the season to discuss the issue. The likelihood of this meeting happening is slim, and in the meantime the MLB can only pray that a postseason game or series is not decided on a blown call.

Another Reason to Learn about Sports

At the hip NYC restaurant The Lion, where you can barely peer into the windows, let alone get a table, Sir Alexander Ferguson, the manager of the popular English soccer team Manchester United, was the center of attention. He was recognized by more people and created more of a stir than Madonna who was eating with Anne Hathaway!!!

So to be "with it" and "in the know" start reading up on your sports figures, because even an Englishman can steal Madonna's spotlight in New York.

Artist Adam Port

Had the cool opportunity to meet Adam Port last night at a charity exhibition of his paintings. Adam is a photorealist who works from photo reference and imagination to create paintings of athletes and entertainers. Adam has painted and collaborated with Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Michael Vick, Eminem, Jay-Z, and many more.

Many of Adam's paintings are a fusion of images from several photographs, which enable the viewer to experience the emotion of the subject in different settings within one piece of work. You can check out his work on his site.

NBAers get Spanked, Literally

You would think that it would take something extreme to rile up 2009 NBA Sportsmanship Award winner, Grant Hill, of the Pheonix Suns. However, last night in a preseason game between the Suns and the Toronto Raptors, Hill flipped his switch when Raptor Reggie Evans slapped his butt just a little too hard. Hill returned the favor by spanking Evans. The two were then ejected from the game.

As idiotic as this appears, it gets worse, because Hill, and Evans, are facing fines for their behavior. Hill's coach even warned him prior to the incident to not get riled up by Evans in order to save Hill some money in a meaningless presseason game.

Its hard to appear as a tough guy when you are ejected for a spanking. Good luck living this joke down.

Postseason No-Hitter

Last night in the first game of the playoff season between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds, Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay had the second no-hitter ever in MLB postseason play. And the last postseason no-hitter was 50 years ago!

A pitcher has a no-hitter, where the opposing team has no hits in the standard nine-inning game. Although this season has seen a relative abundance of no-hitters, this feat is actually incredibly rare. To put it in perspective, it is more likely to see a Chanel suit or black Manolos on sale at Bergdorfs!

The NHL 2010-2011 Season

This is the time of year where all four major sports leagues play simultaneously. Baseball is kicking off the playoffs today, football is in the heart of its season, basketball is just beginning preseason play, and tomorrow, hockey starts its regular season. Just when you thought that you were in sports overload here comes hockey. Although most would probably admit to letting professional hockey slip out of their sports realm, claiming it not to be a "major" sport, I disagree and implore you to give it a dance. Hockey players are as cute as baseball sluggers, as tough as footballers, and as edgy as NBA ballers. Here is a brief rundown of some teams and players to latch onto this season:

Vancouver Canucks: Probably the most all-around talented team out there with an incredible defense. The Canucks may be the best thing to come from Canada - ever.

Chicago Blackhawks: The Blackhawks are the defending champs and will have a lot to prove this year in terms of holding onto their new found fan base. Smoking hot wingman Patrick Sharp should definitely hold your attention.

Boston Bruins: The Bruins did the incredible, by beating out the NBA's Boston Celtics in playoff ratings last postseason. The Bruins are popular, so if you're into that sort of thing, you will sure have friends to watch their games with.

Pittsburgh Penguins: The Penguins are stacked with talent (and charisma) with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Marc-Andre Fleury. Plus, the team is debuting a $321 million arena this season.

Washington Capitals: C-A-P-S CAPS! CAPS! CAPS! There couldn't be an easier cheer and since you now know it, you have no excuse but to be a fan. CAPS fans are hungry this year after a painful post-season loss last year. They are favorites to take the Cup if they can get past the Canucks defense.

Moss Back to the Vikes

One would think that after proving yourself to owners, players, fans, and the league for over ten years that your contract would be secure. Well, unfortunately, that is not the case for seven time pro bowl receiver Randy Moss. Moss was traded this morning from the New England Patriots to the Minnesota Vikings, after failing to catch one ball in the Pats win this past Monday against the Miami Dolphins. (This is the first time as a Pat that Moss failed to have a reception in a game.)

Whether the Pats were disappointed in Moss' performance this past week or just sick of his controversial antics, the team was willing to trade him for a mere third round draft pick. Seems like quite a bargain for the Vikings, who now get to add an all-star receiver to Brett Favre's lineup. It may be Moss who gets the last laugh with the Vikings who boast Favre, Percy Harvin, Adrian Peterson, and now Moss to their starting offense.

Lots of Skin

ESPN Magazine's second annual Body Issue will hit stands Friday, October 8th, with lots of stars baring it all. WNBA star, Diana Taurasi will curl up naked on one of the covers of the magazine - I guess that this is one way to promote a sport that unfortunately no one watches! But should Taurasi be showing her goodies or her athletic skill to promote the WNBA?

Another controversial cover shot of this year's issue is that of Amare Stoudamire, now of the New York Knicks. Isn't he showing a bit much? This one was thankfully airbrushed.

Some of the other athletes featured in this issue are: surfer Kelly Slater, tennis star Venus Williams, soccer goalie Tim Howard, and figure skater Evan Lysacek. Regardless of how you feel about these photos, there is no doubt that these magazines will fly off the shelves.
