Ines Sainz, a good looking Azteca Reporter, was at the NY Jets practice on Saturday to do a story on Mark Sanchez. Yet, while at the facility the players apparently threw footballs her way and made deragatory comments about her. Apparently, she was so big of a distraction the Jets were unable to get their offense together for their game against the Ravens. The owner of the Jets has sinced apologized to Sainz and the NFL is investigating the matter.
Its quite unfortunate that in 2010 a female sports reporter is still faced with this behavior. Check out this opinion piece by
Jenni Carlson on female sports reporters in a man's world. Although the discrimination has lessened over the years, boys are still boys and need to grow up.
Professionalism cuts both ways, SG. Do a google image search for Ines Sainz and look at what comes up. Then tell me that someone whose public image is that can expect the same treatment in a locker room that Jenni Carlson gets.
ReplyDeleteThere's a burden of professionalism on athletes for sure, but there is one on media members too.
What, benur98, you thought her jeans were too tight? ha.
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, I hear you. I think the problem here, however, is that Sainz doesn't seem to be the one making the big deal out of this. She is just running with the publicity for her career. She probably chose her outfit because she likes the attention, and culturally it is appealing to all of her viewers. I think that if you want to wear butt outlining jeans into a locker room, fine, but you better be able to take the comments that come along with it.
