He's On Fire!

Just an update on who is hot right now on the court and who is melting the ice:

• In the NHL it is all about the Pittsburgh Penguins and their star Sidney Crosby - yea that guy from the Reebok commercials. Crosby in on a 17 game scoring streak with 20 goals and 15 assists, leading the Penguins to an 11 game winning streak. Better start taking note of Crosby, he may just be the NHL's guy to bring hockey more into the mainstream. Good looks and able to score - what else do we need?
• The Miami Heat seem to have controlled their fire. Since calling a team meeting a few weeks ago the team has gone on a winning streak. Lebron James had 33 points and Dwayne Wade 28 more in the Heat's win over the Utah Jazz last night. Looks like a game plan is being executed as a team instead of hot shots playing on their own.
• And in NYC, Raymond Felton, came alive alongside potential NBA MVP Amare Stoudamire. Stoudamire had another 30 point game against the Toronto Raptors last night, yet it was Felton who stole the show. Felton had 28 points, 11 assists, and the game winning three-pointer in the win. His last shot bounced on the rim five times prior to going in! Sometimes you need a little luck - or maybe Amare would have just slammed it in if it bounced out. Bottom line: teamwork wins games, and ultimately brings playoffs hope back to the big apple.

Lots of Skin

ESPN Magazine's second annual Body Issue will hit stands Friday, October 8th, with lots of stars baring it all. WNBA star, Diana Taurasi will curl up naked on one of the covers of the magazine - I guess that this is one way to promote a sport that unfortunately no one watches! But should Taurasi be showing her goodies or her athletic skill to promote the WNBA?

Another controversial cover shot of this year's issue is that of Amare Stoudamire, now of the New York Knicks. Isn't he showing a bit much? This one was thankfully airbrushed.

Some of the other athletes featured in this issue are: surfer Kelly Slater, tennis star Venus Williams, soccer goalie Tim Howard, and figure skater Evan Lysacek. Regardless of how you feel about these photos, there is no doubt that these magazines will fly off the shelves.

Never in His Wildest Dreams

Just yesterday, Anna Wintour, yes, the almighty fashion god, invited new New Yorker Amare Stoudamire of the NY Knicks to NY Fashion's Night Out. What a dream invite! Although, for Amare, he probably had to ask his entourage who she was upon receiving the call. Looks like Wintour wants Amare for a Vogue cover as well. Apparently, he is getting super comfortable in his new city.

(Yet, I am not sure how Amare was able to balance attending the event with observing Rosh Hashanah. Anyway, Shana Tova Amare - looks like you are going to have a great new year!)

Good Shabbos to Amare

Gotta wish the new found Jew and New York Knick, Amare Stoudamire a good shabbos. The NY Post is reporting that Amare is upping the ante on his practice of Judaism with Jewish studies and keeping kosher! Yep, you heard that right. He recently ate at Prime Grill, a kosher steakhouse in midtown Manhattan, received a blessing from a Rabbi, and even stuck to fish and veggies at hotspot The Lion in the west village.

Amare must be getting some good nachas from all those Jewish New Yorkers for his new behavior. Yet he did just get a Star of David tattoo.....uh, not so kosher.
