Derek Jeter, the hotshot shortstop for the NY Yankees is now a free agent (meaning he can sign with any team). Jeter just completed the 10th year of his deal with the Yankees, and has been offered a new three-year deal worth $21 million per year (the same amount he earned in the last year of his 10 year deal). Jeter, however, is hesitant to sign on the dotted line as he is eager to have a deal for five or six years, since he is getting up there at 37 years of age, the oldest starting shortstop in the league. Moreover, Jeter's batting numbers have been decreasing and he sure needs to lock in the cash before additional old age sets in.
Seems like Jeter is also trying to reel in a leading lady with his new found maturity, as he has been seen frolicking around Los Angeles with girlfriend actress Minka Kelly. (Engagement rumors are swirling around these two.) Jeter may have gone steady wtih the Yankees throughout his adult life, but the opposite is true in his dating world.
