Rachel Alexandra Retires

Apr. 30, 2010 - Louisville, United States - epa02137873 Racehorse Rachel Alexandra is seen before the start of the 25th Running of the La Troienne race at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, 30 April 2010.
Rachel Alexandra, the 2009 Horse of the Year, retired from racing yesterday after her owners felt that she no longer could live up to her 2009 form. Rachel Alexandra won all eight of her starts in 2009 and even beat males in three of those races. She has earned over $3 million in earnings in her short career.

Rachel Alexandra is a filly, still under five years old, and already beyond her prime. Her owners have decided to allow her to retire and live on their farm, most likely because she was recently selected to mate with Curlin, the Horse of the Year in 2007 and 2008. Watch out for those foals - bound to be worth plenty with double the horsepower.

It doesn't appear to be much different than the lives of many of our female friends...have a short successful career and then retire to pop out the babies. Would be nice to bring in $3 mil though before calling it quits.
